redsn0w is a utility to jailbreak iOS devices. It does so by reading the stockfirmware that can be downloaded from iTunes or from various locations on the internet (as iTunes will detect and delete old firmwares), and then running a payload directly on the device in the form of a ramdisk. When jailbreaking, thedevice will also enter into Device Firmware Upgrade mode. It allows users to install Cydia, the popular 3rd party app installer. This allows the user access to tweaks, homebrew applications, the root directory and the file system.
